Imagine That! FAQ
In the past few years there's been significant research on how preschool-age children learn best, confirming that they thrive on participatory, expressive learning. Growing With Kindermusik was developed more than eight years ago and does not fully reflect this new research, so Kindermusik has incorporated this new knowledge into Imagine That! to create the most valuable, developmentally appropriate program for 3- and 4-year-olds. You and your child will experience many things in Imagine That! that will be familiar to you: Lots of singing and sound imitation to help develop her voice and to foster her language skills. Instrument exploration - she'll discover new sounds and ways to make music. Creative movement and dancing to develop her balance, timing and awareness of space. Fun activities that focus on attention and listening. And most importantly, the Imagine That! class experience still focuses on encouraging your child's individuality and unique development while honoring her own pace of learning and participation.
You will find many new, exciting components and updates to the Imagine That! curriculum: Imagine That! is Developmentally Appropriate: Activities are designed to focus on those areas of development that are at the center of your 3- or 4-year-old's life: imagination, language, sorting and classifying. The level of learning challenges are increased to age-appropriate expectations: artwork is more detailed language is more expanded instruments and literature components are more complex movement activities are more challenging. Imagine That! is Child-Centered: Children are allowed to learn in their own way. They actively participate in and even guide their own learning. Activities are structured to follow the child through the continuation of a scaffolding approach. Imagine That! Includes Pretend Play: Research has shown that pretend play enhances language, which promotes conceptualization and in turn ensures repetition, which builds skills. Pretend play activities are strategically integrated with the music, vocal development, storytelling, listening, movement and literacy aspects of each class. In class, your child will have ample opportunities to contribute her own ideas and express her unique personality through lots of pretend play activities. And most importantly, she will be having FUN while she is learning! Imagine That! Includes Literature: In class we'll have Story Time when your child will actively participate in the story telling that incorporates words, sounds, movement and music! Kindermusik has incorporated literature into Imagine That! because research has shown that a child's developing reading skills are directly linked to his development of spoken language skills, his ability to use movement to express words and ideas, and his ability to make a transition from oral to printed words. Imagine That! Focuses on Parent Involvement: With many activities for the preschool-age child, you are simply the chauffeur, purveyor of refreshments or audience member. But in Imagine That! you are actively involved with your child by attending the last 15 minutes of class for Sharing Time. At Home materials and activities also encourage interaction and extend the musical learning experience at home.
The Imagine That! At Home materials provide so much more than before - so much more to extend your child's learning beyond the classroom and so much more that he can enjoy well beyond our 15 weeks. At Home materials blend together so wonderfully and how each component includes music and activities that we share together in class. Ensures your child's classroom experience goes home so you're able to enjoy the fun and learning together whenever you wish. Quality and content of these materials truly matches that of the children's literature, music, activities and music-making play you look for in the best educational retail outlets. This package is a wonderful value; music and books that become favorites in many Kindermusik families' homes for many years well beyond the classroom experience!
For several reasons: Kindermusik International made a purposeful decision to include the highest quality and most appealing diversity of music appropriate for you and your family. The decision to include two CDs was also in response to the many requests from families for more music. You'll notice that you would have to pay far more for CDs sold separately than you pay for these two CDs with more than 50 tracks. Most importantly, we want to offer more of the music we know children need as they begin to appreciate high-quality music. Second, because Imagine That! focuses on developing your child's singing voice and incorporates more variety and diversity than ever before, more music to broaden your child's learning experience is a natural result. We know that children benefit from repetition, and we also know that they assimilate much more than we previously thought - so Kindermusik has provided twice the amount of music. You'll appreciate having a choice of MORE music rather than patiently repeating the same 30 minutes over and over again. And the diversity and whimsy of the music will keep you smiling - the selections are delightful!
There are now beautiful children's books in Kindermusik! In class we'll have a Music and Movement Story Time when your child will actively participate in the story telling that incorporates words, sounds, movement and music! Kindermusik has incorporated literature into Our Time because research has shown that a child's developing reading skills are directly linked to his development of spoken language skills, his ability to use movement to express words and ideas, and his ability to make a transition from oral to printed words. So, we know that a child develops spoken language, written language and musical language skills more fully when we weave them together in one experience. In your Our Time At Home materials, you'll receive two Music and Movement books. I think you'll love them - they are professionally designed and illustrated just for Kindermusik, and they link beautifully with music on your At Home CDs and activities from your Home Activity Book.
Not at all! Imagine That! activities and At Home materials are similar in components and philosophy to Our Time, however the main difference is in their age appropriateness. Your child will enjoy a much different experience in Imagine That! And the materials are designed to reflect these age and developmental differences. For example, Imagine That! activities for class and home focus on the specific developmental stages of your preschool child: pretend play moves from imitative to creative ownership of learning issues evolve to include problem solving and selecting solutions musical challenges will focus on singing and ensemble language challenges will incorporate their expanded vocabulary and present story sequencing movement challenges are more advanced such as doing two movements at once listening challenges focus on isolated and layered listening and using vocabulary to analyze pieces of music. No two Imagine That! classes are ever the same! That's because the children direct how activities unfold, so each class is a new experience. Your 3- or 4-year-old is just beginning to acknowledge and socialize with other children. You'll be delighted as your child begins to develop friendships with others in class and learns how to adapt and adjust to different social settings. In Kindermusik Our Time, your toddler was still very attached to you, but in Imagine That! your child will express his independence and individuality. You'll be surprised as you discover his unique gifts as he progresses through each Imagine That! class and can't wait to tell you about all he has learned and experienced!
Children that are between 3 and 7 years of age can develop wonderful habits and therefore a more responsible behaviour when given responsibilities they can manage. I believe that my roll as a Kindermusik teacher is to encourage children to take care of their 'Music School bag' and instruments; this should also be encouraged at home.
